Grease is the WordStaff, parents and children of Brook Field enjoyed some fantastic summer nights this week as the children of year 6 perfomed their interpretation of 'Grease' the musical.
Everyone who saw the production agreed that it was fantastic, with every child singing, dancing and really getting into the spirit of the 50's inspired musical. Both Tom and Olivia excelled as Danny and Sandy, and were supported with wonderful performances from all of the children in year 6. A huge thank-you to everyone who helped in bringing this show to life and ensuring that this current group of children leave Brook Field in style!!! Well-done everyone!! Bob the BuilderYear 1 have had a busy time exploring their topic 'Bob the Builder Can We Build it ?'. At the start of this topic the children went on a school trip to Lydiard House where they had the opportunity to dress up as Victorian children and they found out about life as a child in this big house. Year one discovered how the Victorians washed their clothes using wash boards, carbolic soap, a dolly, a copper and a mangle. The children also had the opportunity to play with Victorian toys like the Vernon Bolingbroke would have done many years ago. BraesideYear 4 enjoying a variety of exciting activities on their recent residential trip to Braeside in Devizes.

The match took place on the first Wednesday of the summer term, 21st April 2010. Brass Roadshow
Key Stage 2 enjoyed a music filled afternoon when they were introduced to the instruments from the brass family. Audience participation and a range of music ranging from 500 year old pieces to film and television theme tunes kept everyone entertained while learning about harmony, melody and the range of notes each instrument could play. We all want to thank the five talented musicians who shared their expertise with us. Wiltshire Mysteries
Year 5 started their Wiltshire Mysteries topic in style with a visit from "Alexander Keiller" who carried out much of the research and restoration of Avebury back in the early 20th Century. He burst into the Year 5 unit as a time traveller with Doctor Who to introduce Avebury and set some challenges and mysteries for the Year 5s to solve during their topic. He left behind his diary and pickaxe to help the children. Unfortunately, he couldn't stay long as he had to travel with the Doctor to find and help out his old friend Indiana Jones! (Thanks to Mr Cowell - Head Teacher at Toothill School - for playing the part of Alexander Keiller for us!) The Jolly Postman
Mrs Turner's class have enjoyed finding out all about the fairy tale characters in 'The Jolly Postman' book. The children took part in a 'Jolly Postman Class Assembly' which involved the children singing songs about 'The Three Little Pigs', 'The Big Bad Wolf'' and 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. Year 1 retold the story 'The Three Little Pigs' using lots of different actions to help them remember all of the words. The children also shared their journeys and maps they made when they posted their letters at the local post office in Ramleaze. Finally all the children's parents enjoyed a cup of tea and a fairy cake back in their child's classroom where they saw all of the photos of Year one's trip to the local shops. Hat for HaitiChildren and staff at BrookField held a 'Hat for Haiti' day and raised an amazing £534.90 to help the relief effort.
A huge thank you to all those who dressed up donated money for this very worthy cause. SteamYear Four went full steam ahead on their latest trip, arriving at Steam in no time at all. All the teachers and group leaders were proud to take such a well-behaved group and were particularly amazed by all the children’s keen participation in the role-play activities.
Following a whistle stop tour of the railway village we pulled on the breaks and carried out some careful sketching. We will be developing these and our line and tone art skills back at school soon. Images from our delightful day have been the inspiration for some amazing poetry. Here’s one Year 4b created… Standing still the tower is a token of the past. West Swindon Tag Rugby tournamentChildren from Yr 6 took part in the West Swindon Tag Rugby tournament held at Greendown Secondary School. Despite the freezing conditions and occassional snow shower, the children played magnificently and had a fantastic time, emerging as the overall winners!
The first match kicked off with a game against Shawridge B. With superb team-work, slick passing and impressive attacking skills, the children won the match 8 - 2. The children were deligthed and recognised the contribution and work rate everyone must put in in order to defend effectively and put pressure on the opposition. This understanding translated very well into the next match as Shawridge A proved to be much sterner opposition! The children once again played extrememly well and managed to win the game 9 - 6. The final game against Westlea proved to be the tournament decider as both teams had won all of their matches coming in to the game. The match itself proved to be a a thrilling encounter with both teams playing exceptionally well. Neither team managed to gain the upper hand, as when one team scored, there was an immediate response by the other! With the match drawing to its conclusion, Brookfield managed to get that all important score ahead and when the final whistle blew, all the children were delighted with narrow victory of 11 - 10! Huge congratulations must go to Maciek Stepien, Georgie Gibson, Cameron Forsyth, Sophie Cocoran, Luke Stoneham, Joe Hooper, Emilia Grey, Jack Hutchinson and Emma Whelan. These children will now represent Brook Field and the West of Swindon at the area finals, taking place later in the year. Congratulations!! Worlds Biggest BirdwatchYear 3 have recently taken part in the worlds biggest birdwatch for the RSPB.
The birds the children spotted included blackbirds, carrion crows, magpies, house sparrows, blue tits, great tits, woodpigeons and robins. Can you spot any of these in school???? Morris the mouseYear 3 have had a fabulous start to the year with their new topic looking at changes in the environment. We started off with the children meeting Morris the mouse a local woodland creature who had all his things stolen and hidden in the woodland walk by that naughty Sidney Squirrel.
So the children set off on a treasure hunt with their maps plotting where the items were hidden. They eventually found them all and have even created their own maps with hotspots to show where the items were hidden during ICT. VE Day Celebrations End World War 2 Topic
Year 5 ended their World War 2 topic in a very special way. We had a VE Day Party all day with several memorable activities and events. The morning started, with all the children being separated from their parents as if they were being evacuated at the start of the War. The children filled in their billeting cards, while several parents seemed quite cheerful when told they might not see their children again for the next few years! All the children came suitably dressed as evacuees, with the teachers and TAs dressed as military personnel or as members of the Land Army. A special mention to Miss Farrow, who is still washing out all the hair spray used to hold her hair in an appropriate and very fashionable 1940's style.
