Worlds Biggest Birdwatch

Year 3 have recently taken part in the worlds biggest birdwatch for the RSPB.
The children have learnt to identify some of our more common birds and with the help of their binoculars managed to spot 8 different species visiting our school grounds in 1 hour. ... It must have been the tasty bird cake the children had made and have been putting out for the birds to enjoy. Sophie liked the woodpigeons best, "They were big and easy to spot as they were feeding on the ground." The children thought using the binoculars was great fun as they could see so much detail and Joseph said " I could even see the feathers through them."

Bird Watch

The birds the children spotted included blackbirds, carrion crows, magpies, house sparrows, blue tits, great tits, woodpigeons and robins. Can you spot any of these in school????
Next we are hoping that the great tits will soon nest in our bird boxes and we can watch them on our webcam... we'll keep you posted!

Morris the mouse

Year 3 have had a fabulous start to the year with their new topic looking at changes in the environment. We started off with the children meeting Morris the mouse a local woodland creature who had all his things stolen and hidden in the woodland walk by that naughty Sidney Squirrel.

Our Environment

So the children set off on a treasure hunt with their maps plotting where the items were hidden. They eventually found them all and have even created their own maps with hotspots to show where the items were hidden during ICT.

King Henry VIII

Last term the children of year three stepped back in time nearly 500 years to the Tudor era. Both Classes wrote to the dear King Henry VIII inviting him to attend Brook Field Palace for a Royal banquet.

Tudor Visit

Unfortunately King Henry was unable to attend, however he did send Lady Therese of Glen Cairnes a loyal servant to Queen Anne Boyelyn in his place to apologise for his absence and to invite us all to visit Hampton Court Palace. So on the 13th of May, dressed in our finery we had the privilege of exploring the Grand Palace.

Tudor Visit

We had a wonderful day and were even lucky enough to meet Sir Thomas Seymore the brother of Jane Seymore. We were all very impressed by the magnificent Great Hall, the decorative watching chamber and the beautiful gardens. Following our trip to Hampton Court, Miss Telling’s class put on a wonderful assembly re-enacting the life of Henry the VIII and the fate of his six wives. The children really enjoyed getting in role of the characters and it provided a fantastic end to our term.
