About the School | School Grounds - Playtime

There was never much to do at playtimes…. Lots of tarmac, a couple of balls and a few faded markings.

So, during 2005 we introduced some new ideas to help make playtimes at Brook Field more fun and exciting.

This followed a lot of hard work by the pupils and staff, who had been busy identifying playtime problems and coming up with suggestions for improvements.

Playtime

The play areas have now been zoned into ball games, active areas and calm areas and the children have new equipment to use in each of these.

Through the school council, the children themselves have devised an agreed set of rules and sanctions to ensure this equipment is respected and taken care of.

Football and netball are still popular, but now we have posts, goals, proper balls and a fair rota, which gives everyone a chance to play.

Snowtime

For those who prefer something quieter at playtimes, we have introduced our quiet playboxes, full of books, board games, cards, paper and pencils…..

We are also extremely pleased to announce that our new playground squads have been chosen and are up and running. They are undertaking a range of duties including helping organise games and equipment and being a playground friend. Each class chooses their own playground squad members each half term. A huge thanks to the squad, who are doing a great job.

We are all very proud of the effort, enthusiasm and support from both pupils and staff that have helped to make this important part of the day more enjoyable.

Thanks also to the Friends of Brook Field and the local Harvester Pub for their donations which have enabled us to purchase new playtime equipment.

Playtimes may not be quite perfect yet, but we have improved them a lot and have many more plans for the future. These include playground markings, a friendship stop and large equipment for climbing and imaginative play…… so watch this space!!

These playtime photos show how much fun we're having at Brook Field!

Playground Squad

Playground Squad

Our playground squad was introduced in January 2005 and are now a well-established part of playtimes…. How did we ever do without them???

They are undertaking a range of duties including helping organise games and equipment and being a playground friend.

Each Key Stage 2 class chooses their own playground squad members each half term. Pupils from year 2 also help the key stage 1 children and staff.

A huge thanks to the squad, who are doing a great job.
