Recycool | Recycling of Phones and Cartridges

RecycoolBrook Field has signed up to an exciting new recycling programme called Recycool which involves recycling mobile phones and used printer cartridges.

Recycool teaches pupils the importance of recycling and protecting the environment, as well as teaching them about enterprise. The programme was launched by recycling company Redeem plc, which gives us school funds in exchange for these products.

I am writing to ask if you would like to support the school by donating your own empty printer cartridges and old mobile phones to our appeal. The money raised by this appeal can be used however we please, and will help us to buy new equipment or other educational essentials.

Old mobile phones and printer cartridges are considered to be ‘rubbish’ and generally end up in landfill sites. The vast majority of mobile phones contain toxic substances which can leak into the surrounding soil and pollute it, and printer cartridges take hundreds of years to biodegrade.

But if you send these products to the school, we will pass them on to Redeem plc where they will be refurbished and later re-used. Some of the mobile phones even end up in developing countries where little or no landline infrastructure exists, meaning your old mobiles could provide a real lifeline for someone.

So if you have a printer at home, don’t bin your cartridges when they run out – donate them to the appeal and you’ll be helping the school and the environment. And if you’ve got an old phone gathering dust in a drawer, that too can raise substantial funds for our appeal.

Our school’s collection box for these items is located in the ICT Suite in the top building.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about our recycling programme.
